The Mykonos White Boxes Resort, designed by Potiropoulos+Partners, is a stunning tourist complex that seamlessly blends tradition with contemporary architecture. Situated in the picturesque Cyclades region of Greece, this resort stands out for its unique design and its harmonious integration with the natural landscape.
The design of the resort is inspired by the local architectural heritage, drawing inspiration from the drystone walls and traditional Cycladic dovecotes. The modules of the rooms, situated along multiple successive levels, resemble the organic shapes of these traditional structures. This design choice not only pays homage to the local culture but also creates a sense of unity between the resort and its surroundings.
One of the standout features of the Mykonos White Boxes Resort is its public spaces, located on the lower level of a single tiered building facing the sea. Here, guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean while immersing themselves in the tranquil ambiance. As the resort expands towards the shoreline, an oblong swimming pool and a spacious outdoor area unfold, seemingly reaching for the horizon. This design element enhances the connection between the resort and its natural surroundings, providing guests with a truly immersive experience.
The design of the resort is not only visually striking but also incorporates innovative architectural techniques. The perforated organically shaped horizontal and vertical surfaces of the semi-outdoor spaces create a sense of movement and interact with the natural light. These seemingly random geometries, along with the rearrangement of the modules and the displacement of the voids in-between, contribute to the overall flow and variability of the form.
With a total area of 44,000 m2, the Mykonos White Boxes Resort offers a luxurious and unique experience for tourists visiting the Cyclades. Its design reflects a deep understanding of the local culture and landscape, while also pushing the boundaries of contemporary architecture.
The Mykonos White Boxes Resort has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. In 2018, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase technical and creative excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
Experience the beauty of the Mykonos White Boxes Resort and immerse yourself in the perfect blend of tradition and contemporary architecture.
